This year's concert is sponsored by the City of Coimbra and will feature a full orchestra, Coimbra's Orquestra Clássica do Centro, performing mathematically inspired and inspiring works, both new and old. The concert will feature a newly composed piano concerto by Dmitri Tymoczko, based on the idea of cellular automata, a recent piece by Giovanni Albini, based on the idea of symmetry, and an older piece by Tom Johnson, in which a math theorem is proved before your very ears! There will also be more traditional pieces by a variety of composers, including that great mathematician, Johann Sebastian Bach.
