2019 Call for Math + Fashion Show

Announcing the second annual Bridges Math + Fashion Show at Bridges Linz 2019!
We are pleased to solicit submissions for the second annual Bridges Math + Fashion Show. We look forward to exhibiting a variety of clothing, accessories, and jewelry.
As this fashion show is part of a professional conference, we will only accept works with substantive mathematical content that are appropriate for a family audience.
Submissions consist of the following for each look or collection submitted.
- The name(s) of the item(s) in each look or collection.
- A description of at most 250 words for the judging committee. Your description should include sizing if appropriate, materials used, and mathematical ideas.
- One or more photographs of the item or collection for the judging committee, akin to the art exhibit catalog photos.
- The designated person in charge of the submission(s), who may be the submitter and must be attending Bridges Linz. We do not have funds or infrastructure to bring items to and from the conference, so artists are responsible for bringing the items themselves or designating a surrogate.
The submission site and instructions will be available online by the beginning of the submission period on April 1.
The fashion show is not connected to the art exhibition and has completely separate judging. If you have a work in the art exhibition that you would like to be part of the fashion show, we might be able to make arrangements with the art exhibit to borrow the piece for the duration of the fashion show.
The artworks will be judged on the following criteria, and curated to produce a balanced short program.
- Mathematical content
- Aesthetic appeal
- Craftsmanship
- Innovative design
- Runway impact
All submissions must be made through the submission website between April 1 and May 1, and decisions will be released by May 20. We look forward to your submissions, and to a fun and fascinating show!
