2018 Science and Technology and Ethnographic Museum Night

Wednesday, July 25
6:00pm - 9:00pm

The museums will be open for the Bridges conference participants and docents will be available to explain exhibits. Light meals and beer and wine will be available for purchase at the museum’s restaurants. Come listen to the Highway Stompers, with Christer Falk on tenor saxophone and Joacim Otterbjörk on bass, play light jazz in the garden as you enjoy your meal.

Two videos will be shown during the evening in EST:

Air Cube/Concrete, shown at 6:00pm and 7:00pm, is a video of Eva Ingemarsson performing a dance featuring a large flexible cube. Lights and shadows are made visible by intriguing illumination. The cube used in the performance is an enlarged version of a piece of jewelry by Lena Birgitsdotter displayed in the Art Exhibition. Eva and Lena will discuss both the performance and artwork and the audience will have a chance to handle the flexible cube and test how it works.

La Figure de la Terre, staring Bridges participants Osmo Pekonen and Johan Sten, will be shown at 6:30 pm and 7:30 pm. This 24-minute movie in French and Swedish with English subtitles is a historical dramatization of French mathematician Pierre Louis Moreau de Maupertuis and Swedish astronomer Anders Celsius trip to Swedish Lapland in 1736-1737 to measure the shape of the Earth.
