The programme starts on Saturday, August 13 at 9:00AM with a visit to Alvar Aalto Museum, Jyväskylä. Buses are leaving from the Alvar Aalto Museum and return back to Jyväskylä by 11PM in the evening.

On Saturday, August 13, 2016, we invite you to join us to enjoy sightseeing, culture, art and the historical architectural visit to Alvar Aalto Museum, Jyväskylä and on a trip to the small town of Mänttä (approximately one hour drive from Jyväskylä). This journey will include a sightseeing tour around Jyväskylä region surrounded by the beautiful lakes and the natural woodlands, including UNESCO's World Heritage Church - the Old Church of Petäjävesi, known as a historical masterpiece of Scandinavian architecture worldwide. The evening program includes the Bridges 2016 Music Night programme with an exquisite concert in Mänttä Club house featuring Corey Cerovsek & Paavali Jumppanen.

Mänttä Serlachius Museums

In Mänttä we will have a tasteful lunch in the afternoon (price of the lunch is included in the excursion ticket). Three groups will travel between the three attractions, Gösta, Gustaf and Honkahovi. We will visit the historical and architectural building of ArtHotel Honkahovi. The Gösta Museum showcases contemporary art as well as some pearls of the Golden Age of Finnish art. The Gustaf Museum is located in the former head office of G.A. Serlachius Ltd, a paper mill. There you can acquaint yourself with the colorful local history and culture of Finland.

Corey Cerovsek - Violin
Born in Vancouver, Canada, Corey Cerovsek began playing the violin at the age of five. He was awarded a bachelor's degree in music and mathematics at age 15, and completed his doctoral coursework in music and mathematics at age 18.
Working with conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Charles Dutoit, Michael Tilson Thomas, Neeme Järvi, Andrew Litton, Yoel Levi, and Jesús López-Cobos, Cerovsek has performed in North America with the orchestras of Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Detroit, Cincinnati, St. Louis, Atlanta, Baltimore, Montréal, Vancouver, and Toronto, among many others, and internationally with such groups as the Israel Philharmonic, Prague Symphony, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Residentie Orkest of the Hague, Berlin Symphony, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide Symphonies, Bournemouth Symphony, Vienna Chamber Orchestra, and the Orchestre de Poitou-Charentes and the Montpellier Festival Orchestra (France).
His recording of the complete Beethoven Violin Sonatas, made in 2006 with pianist Paavali Jumppanen for the Claves label, received numerous awards including the 2008 MIDEM Classical Music Award for Best Chamber Music, Gramophone Recommends, and recognition from Le Monde de la Musique, Diapason, Supersonic Pizzicato, and Fono Forum Stern des Monats. It was followed in 2008 by a much-acclaimed recording of works of Vieuxtemps and Wieniawski with the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne under Hannu Lintu. His Corigliano Violin Sonata, with Andrew Russo on the Black Box label, was nominated for a 2006 Grammy Award.
Corey Cerovsek performs on the “Milanollo” Stradivarius of 1728, played among others by Viotti, Paganini, and Christian Ferras. He is also cofounder and CTO of a technology company specializing in medical education.
Paavali Jumppanen - Piano
Finnish pianist Paavali Jumppanen has become known as an exciting and a versatile performer, equally at home on stage as a soloist and a chamber musician. His vast repertoire spans much of the classical piano literature, from Bach to the avant-garde. Mr. Jumppanen has collaborated with numerous contemporary composers and has premiered many solo and chamber works for the piano. Working with renowned composers such as Pierre Boulez, William Duckworth, and Henri Dutilleux, as well as many of his own generation, has opened for Mr. Jumppanen a broad perspective into the dynamic nature of new music.
Paavali Jumppanen’s recording of the three Piano Sonatas by Pierre Boulez, carried out upon the composer’s request, was considered by The Guardian to be “the best recorded disc of Boulez’s piano music so far.” He made a direct-to-disc vinyl recording of music by Beethoven, Sibelius, and Wagner in 2012. Subsequently, he has recorded the complete works for violin and piano by Einojuhani Rautavaara with violinist Pekka Kuusisto. The Finnish record label Ondine released recordings of the complete Beethoven Piano Sonatas by Paavali Jumppanen in 2014 and 2015.
Paavali Jumpppanen spent the 2011-12 season as a visiting scholar at the Harvard University Music Department where, in addition to deepening his understanding particularly of Viennese music of the 18th and 19th centuries, he was able to realize a longtime aspiration to study musicology and music theory. Mr. Jumppanen believes that an active relationship with historic music requires a critical and open-minded association with the tradition administrating both performance practice and academic discourse.
