"Dragonflies"

Wood, 8”x8”x8”,  2008.

The form of Dragonflies consists of twelve congruent parts arranged with octahedral symmetry in a form based on the third stellation of the rhombic dodecahedron.  The laser-cut wood components are each a subset of the complete face of the stellation, designed so that it does not intersect with the other eleven identical copies of itself. Interweaving and assembling the rigid physical parts was an interesting challenge.
