"Numbers and Measure"
Digital print study, 20" x 20", 2002
Part of a multi-faceted work extending throughout the mathematics
building at the University of Utah, including 100 18" x 18" aluminum
plates. The mural develops structural connections with the arts,
sciences and culture while conveying the range and beauty of
mathematics. Lobby walls on three levels serve as the major focus. Much
of the work was developed with the help of the computer and incorporates
mixed media. The plates were screened, laser etched and in some
instances hand painted. Numbers & Measure illustrates the arrangement of
plates in the First Floor Lobby.
"Plate 26. Harmonic Growth"
Screen-print on aluminum plate, 18" x 18", 2002
Plate 26 of the 100 plates in the Mathematics Building located in
the first floor corridor. Harmonic Growth is influenced by Islamic
Geometric designs.
"Plate 27. FASS dwg. w/ figure ground reversal"
Screen-print on aluminum plate, 18" x 18", 2002
Plate 27 of the 100 plates in the Mathematics Building. The FASS
curve was programmed on the computer and then converted to a figure
ground reversal. FASS is an acronym for space-filling, self avoiding,
simple & self similar.

Statement about my art:
"I approach art as exploration, owing much to training in art history
and mathematics at Wellesley College, architecture at Harvard
University's Graduate School of Design and work in color and light at
MIT with Gyorgy Kepes. Painting, printing and computer studies followed.
Intersections of Art/Science/Technology provide a broad base for my work."
