Matjuska Teja Krasek was born in Celje, Slovenija. She holds a B. A. degree in painting from Arthouse - College for Visual Arts, Ljubljana and is a freelance artist who lives and works in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Her theoretical as well as practical work is especially focused on symmetry as a linking concept between art and science. Her artworks have been exhibited at eighteen group shows, one three-artists-, four solo exhibits (Ljubljana, Barcelona, Elgin) and published internationally (Leonardo Journal, Leonardo on-line).

" Among other things, my artistic work is connected to different kinds of symmetry (symmetry operations), Penrose tilings, Penrose rhombs, quasicrystals, the golden mean as an element of symmetry, Fibonacci sequences, etc. With the help of reflection, imagination and intuition I try to glean new relationships, new levels of structure, new and different kinds of order in these elements and structures. On the other hand, through some perceptually instable (ambiguous) compositions I wish to emphasize the principles of the way our cognitive system works - not solely our visual apparatus, our brain and mind, but the entire process of perception (as a whole) as well. I find computer graphics as a very useful and attractive medium for creating my artworks and technology itself as a link in a braid where science, math and art interact.

"In Double Star GA, we see how Penrose tiles (the two rhombs, which are the prototiles of the P3 tiling), are juxtaposed to form a two-dimensional representation of a potentially hyperspatial object of a decagonal basis. In the basic atlas, now we can find quasicubes, rhombs, stars, pentagons (the geometrical shape where both rhombs are derived from initially), and the prototiles, which build a P2 tiling (made of kites and darts) at different scales. Fivefold and tenfold symmetry are preserved. The golden mean as a mathematical constant is represented. The Golden Mean as a constant in the relationships between the line segments, in both basic tiles' superficies and other areas plays the key role in the dynamics of the 'object'."
