Prof. Ergun Akleman is the Program Coordinator for the Visualization Sciences Program at Texas A&M University.
"[This image is] from my "Shape Modeling '04" paper
called "Pentagonal Semi-Regular Subdivisions," in which
I showed that it is possible to cover any genus >1 surface
with hexagonal tiles with valence larger than 3; and cover
any surface with pentagonal tiles with a valence larger
than 3. I have also developed subdivision schemes to create
such tilings as shown in [this example]."
