Mahogany, 18 inches, 2003.
The sculpture is based on the rhombic triacontahedron (RTC), which is
a convex polyhedron with 30 rhombic faces. RTC has full symmetry of
icosahedron. One of its stellations consists of 30 larger intersecting
rhombic faces, which form continuous surface with complex topology.
Replacing each rhombus with a curved planar shape makes the sculpture
with rotational symmetry of icosahedron.
Maple and mahogany, 12 inches,2002.
Tetrakis hexahedron (TH) is dual to truncated dodecahedron. It
is polyhedron with 24 identical triangular faces with total symmetry
of cube. The sculpture is one of TH stellations. The symmetry of the
sculpture is rotational symmetry of cube.
Walnut, oak,16 inches, 2003.
This is small stellated dodecahedron (SSD). Removing of
intersections of its faces clearly shows, that it consists of 12
identical pentagrams. The shape was inspired by M.C. Escher 1952
lithograph "Gravity".

"I am a physicist, mathematician and artist. My artistic passions are
mathematical images and sculptures, which express a certain vision of
forms and shapes, my interpretations of a distance, transformations

like photographs of interesting mathematical ideas. I have always
been intrigued by the possibility of showing to non-mathematicians the
intrinsic richness of the mathematics, whose charm and harmony can
really be appreciated by everyone.
