Stan Spencer
Amateur Mathematician and Algorithmic Artist based in the North of England.

"I am interested in the Algorithm as an Art form. Much of my work has elements which are original from a Mathematical point of view. The outcomes from my early work in both 2 and 3 dimensions were in the form of computer printouts. Recently, the realisations have been Ceramic, Patchwork or Dance. The pictures and designs are produced using my own software written in Visual BASIC.

'Viva Flamenco': (size A0) Inspired by my interest in Dance and my first Bridges submission in Granada in 2003. The picture is a non - periodic Tessellation using precious triangles derived from the heptagon. The individual triangles can be seen in the detail.

'Lafarge Sunset': (size A0): This is one of thirteen tessellations from the series "North of Watford Gap" produced in 2004. Each picture is a non periodic tessellation using the precious properties of the regular tangram tiles. The individual triangles can be seen in the detail.

'Buddha': (size A4): A fractal based upon the net of a dodecahedron. The fractal depicts the five precepts of Budhism, conceived on a trip to Sri Lanka in 2001.

The thread that ties together my art work is the algorithm. "
