"Although without any formal training in both art and science, upon
having a practising interest in art, beginning typically with
landscapes, such a relatively straightforward portrayal of nature after
a while became insufficient. Essentially, I was looking to progress
beyond such basics, with more imaginative work. This thus led to a
surreal period (favouring the works of Salvador Dali in style) followed
by op art. As op art is based upon mathematical principles, this then
led naturally to a contemplative period, in which of necessity
mathematics, albeit of a basic level, was studied. Upon having entered a
more scientific domain, I eventually came across M.C. Escher's
tessellations, from which at first I had no idea of how he did such
work. Aside from the interesting artwork, what was noticeable about the
tessellations was the apparent uniqueness of it all - surely one person
could not have done everything in this field? Consequently, I thus
decided to see what I myself could do, in which I essentially echoed
Escher, with somewhat crude beginnings followed by quality work.
The examples above show what I consider to be my own speciality, namely
that of lifelike motifs with geometrical outlines - undoubtedly simple,
but highly effective."
